Eighth Annual Capital Region Wine Festival March 12 at Proctors
“Give me wine,” Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “to wash me clean of the weather-stains of cares.”
Wine there will be, in abundance, at Romancing the Grape, the Eighth Annual Capital Region Wine Festival, 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Proctors.
Romancing the Grape has become a signature annual fundraiser at Proctors, with all proceeds benefiting 440 State Street, Inc. The event, popular with those with a taste for the finer things in life, has grown again this year, with a broad array of bottles from over two dozen vintners and distributors, including Pernod Ricard, Francis Coppola, New Parrot, Delicato Family Vineyards and Valley of the Moon.
Connoisseurs and weekend warriors alike can sample a wide variety of exceptional red, white and sparkling wines, while browsing offerings from vendors like Castle Green Art Glass Studio, RM Irish Jewels, Habana Premium Cigar Shoppe, Gusto Della Vita, AC Woodcraft and 22 Shades of Gray; and sampling fare from Aperitivo Bistro, Apostrophe Café, Pasta Pane, Angelo’s Tavolo and other area restaurants.
The Irresistible Live Auction, beginning at 4 p.m. and featuring large format bottles such as Estancia Cabernet; Josh Cabernet; Bottle Ste. Michelle Artist Series Whispering Angel Rose; J. Lohr Seven Oaks Cabernet; Stemmari Nero D’avola; and Mezzacorona Rose, is open to the public.
Three levels of admission—available from the Box Office at Proctors, 432 State Street, Schenectady; by phone at 518.346.6204; or online at proctors.org—will satisfy teetotalers, tasters and aficionados.
Designated Drivers, $25, choose from a variety of gourmet sodas, coffee and restaurant samples.
Ticketholders for the Grand Tasting Affair, $50, may sample many different wines in addition to enjoying food samples and shopping.
And the Wine Lover’s Package, $100 (limited to 100 patrons), includes a private post-auction Club Grand Vin tasting of distinctive reserve wines (all valued at more than $100 a bottle), butler-passed hors d’oeuvres and live entertainment.
