Noré Davis

Funny man drives north for Pretty Much the Best Comedy Show at Proctors

When the comedian Noré Davis was getting started, he would drive into Westchester County for his day job, in graphic design, and at night he would head to open mics in New York City—as he put it, “collecting lots and lots of miles on my first car.”

His manager would later instruct him, in fact, that the first three letters in career spell car.

Davis, who also worked at a service station, wasn’t getting paid in those days; the draw was having a chance to practice his new material and to see the headliners who took the stage after him.

“The best way to learn is to watch,” he says. “There’s no formula, you just have to do it, see where you fall, and make adjustments.”

Eight years later, Davis, who never goes more than four days without stepping onto a stage, makes his living as a full-time comedian, and he headlines Pretty Much the Best Comedy Show at Proctors, 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

Known for his energetic performances and magnetic stage presence, Davis has appeared on Comedy Central, MTV, and Gotham Comedy Live on AXS TV, as well as at the prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal.

His talents have also earned him acting roles on TV shows including Inside Amy Schumer, Last Week Tonight and the Emmy Award-winning Boardwalk Empire on HBO.

Pretty Much the Best Comedy Show includes a feature act, a host, and a guest comedian to make up nearly two hours of comedy entertainment.
