School of Performing Arts at Proctors and Capital Repertory Theatre expand summer offerings
The School of Performing Arts at Proctors, in partnership with Capital Repertory Theatre, expands its summer offerings in 2016, with its Broadway Camp students mounting a full-scale production of “All Shook Up,” directed by Steven Yuhasz, August 5–6 on the historic Schenectady MainStage.
Auditions for ages 14–19 will be held 4:30 p.m. March 20–21 at the GE Theatre at Proctors. For more information, visit proctors.org/all-shook-up, or contact Education Program Manager Jessica Johndrew Gelarden at (518) 382-3884, ext. 150.
As in past years, Broadway camp students will learn real world skills from working professionals, and will have the opportunity to pursue tracks in acting, orchestra and production.
“All Shook Up,” written by Broadway’s Joe Di Pietro (“I Love You, You’re Perfect,” “Now Change, Memphis” and “Nice Work If You Can Get It”) and featuring a score made up of Elvis Presley songs, is a musical spoof of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” set in the 1950s, replete with a guitar strumming roustabout riding into a Midwest small town square.
In addition, The School of Performing Arts will offer all of its most popular summer programs: Broadway Camp Jr. (Ages: 12–14, July 11–15); Acting Out! (Ages: 7–10, July 11–15); Filmmaking Academy (Ages: 15–18, July 18–29); Improv Anywhere! (Ages: 9–13, July 18–22); Broadway Dance (Ages: 10–14, July 25–29); Imagine That! (Ages: 9–13, July 25–29); Stage and Special Fx Makeup (Ages: 12–18, July 25–29); The Jazz Institute (Ages: 12 and up, August 1–12); and Reel Adventures: Young Filmmakers (Ages: 10–14, August 1–12).
