Young acting company presents “She Kills Monsters” this summer

Black Theatre Troupe of Upstate NY collaborates with Capital Repertory Theatre

ALBANY— For three weeks, 12 students with the Summer Stage Young Acting Company have been exploring the fundamentals of theatre in an impactful partnership between the Collaborative School of the Arts and Black Theatre Troupe of Upstate NY (BTTUNY). The young actors have been diving into the exciting characters and plotline of “She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition” by Qui Nguyen for their August performances.

Summer Stage Young Acting Company (SYAC) is a summer program through the Collaborative School of the Arts produced at Capital Repertory Theatre in downtown Albany. This year, the program has collaborated with resident community theatre company, BTTUNY, to produce a heart-pounding homage to the gamers, geeks and warriors within all of us.

This incredible opportunity offered by CSOA gives students a chance to be involved in and learn about professional theatre. SYAC is a safe and creative space for the young actors to explore their imagination and learn new skills.

“Connecting our resources with BTTUNY and seeing what we could do together with an already scripted show just seemed like a really cool opportunity,” said theREP’s Associate Artistic Director Margaret E. Hall.

BTTUNY Artistic Director Jean-Remy Monnay said, “I’m all about bringing more people together and giving opportunities to kids of all ages, all races and genders. It feels good to collaborate on something special like this. It’s an honor and I’m proud to be part of it.”

All of CSOA’s program offers tuition assistance to provide theatre to all children. SYAC runs from the end of July through the beginning of August and ends with a performance showcase of “She Kills Monsters.” For more information and to buy tickets visit the Box Office at Proctors in-person or via phone at (518) 346-6204 Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. or by visiting attherep.org.
