theREP has it all this season!

Capital Repertory Theatre lineup is full of variety–And drama

ALBANY— The 24-25 season at Capital Repertory Theatre brings something for everyone––the foodies, the lovers of classics and dramas, the business people, the romantics and everyone in between.

Each of the five stories this season examines what it means to be human and what happens when someone reaches a crossroads. And while these common themes bind the season together, each story offers variety to audiences with unique characters, style and perspective.

“This season has a tremendous variety in subject matter and style–everything from comedy to drama to American mythology, and each production has an amazing theatrical aspect that is sure to delight and surprise,” said Producing Artistic Director Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill.

The true power of theatre takes center stage with “Seared,” as the MainStage is transformed into a working NYC restaurant kitchen. Feel the heat and smell the drama when a hot-headed chef is faced with a defining dilemma that pits his values against fame.

For the holidays, a game is afoot with “A Sherlock Carol,” a deliciously fun mash up of characters from a “A Christmas Carol” and the mysteries of the great detective, Sherlock Holmes.

Mancinelli-Cahill said of the story, “Here’s a tale that helps us believe that even the saddest, more wayward of humans can be changed; that each of us is capable of transformation.”

“All kinds of people can come to the theatre and sit next to each other with different economic, social and education backgrounds—theREP is a place where people can come together for a unique common experience that reminds us that we’re all in this world together,” she added.

Sometimes, the theatre can offer new perspectives of the events that have shaken our world. This season, theREP tackles one of the biggest financial stories of the century. “The Lehman Trilogy” looks at the transformative hundred-year journey of a family that immigrates to America to start lives as humble peddlers and through decades of hard work and lost dreams became power brokers on Wall Street.

“This is the personal story behind the ‘too big to fail’ myth that impacted our entire country and changed all our lives,” Mancinelli-Cahill said.

In the spring, a world premiere places a magnifying glass on family values and relationships. “Rosie Is Red And Everybody Is Blue,” the 2022 NEXT ACT! winner, delves into the challenges we all face when confronted with loss. Rosie is your neighbor, maybe you will recognize her. She’s a school bus driver; you know her children and the everyday struggles they face. There’s something easily identifiable with Rosie and this heartwarming tale that is very much a part of an American story.

“Attending a new play means taking a risk. I am hoping that audiences will take a chance on this fresh world premiere,” Mancinelli-Cahill added.

The season closes with the magnificent musical, “Once,” in summer 2025. The popular story is told with beautiful songs about once-in-a-lifetime moments, no matter how big or small, have the power to change our lives forever.

“Part of our mission is to produce theatre for the very diverse populations of the Capital Region; to tell the stories of those who aren’t always heard, by celebrating diversity, looking for the common threads that bind us and offering a welcoming place to experience joy together through the arts,” Mancinelli-Cahill said.
