Popular Poinsettia Pops brings holiday magic with two special performances this year at UPH
The Schenectady-Saratoga Symphony Orchestra beloved seasonal tradition is back
SARATOGA—Schenectady-Saratoga Symphony Orchestra’s coziest and most festive tradition returns with two special performances of Poinsettia Pops Dec. 7 and 8 at Universal Preservation Hall. ‘Tis the season for all your holiday favorites in an unforgettable concert featuring guest soloists Jeanine Ouderkirk, Mowgli Giannitti and Elizabeth Sterling.
Poinsettia Pops is a beautiful way to experience the cherished music of the holiday season in a brand-new way. Both performances by SSSO feature vocalists who awaken special holiday memories and create magical moments for the audience.
Guest artist Sterling said, “Many of the same holiday songs have been sung by generation after generation and still evoke similar emotions for many people, young and old. The messages of these songs are timeless.”
Sterling grew up in Saratoga Springs and performs regularly as an actor and musician with several Capital Region theatre companies. For her, “O Come Emmanuel” is a holiday favorite. “It reminds me that the holiday season can be a light in the darkness – a time of giving, fellowship and hope for many people,” she added.
Poinsettia Pops is not only a joyous evening for the family during the hustle and bustle of December but also the perfect addition to your annual traditions. Spend time in UPH’s beautiful atmosphere, experiencing the classic sounds of the season.
Ouderkirk, a Saratoga Springs High alum, is a singer, pianist and woodwind doubler who has been teaching privately for 20 years in the area. She is grateful for each opportunity to share artfully crafted songs in intimate and unique settings, and most certainly for Poinsettia Pops.
Giannitti is a touring bassist, singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and actor currently based in Upstate NY. Most days, Mowgli can be found preparing scores and parts for his jazz/fusion rock opera project Satyrdagg.
