Something “Wicked” this way comes — again!

National tour brings magic, music, and mayhem to Proctors

SCHENECTADY—One of Broadway’s most beloved musicals is set to defy gravity in the Capital Region this fall, as “Wicked” opens at Proctors for a limited engagement.

Step into the untold story of the Witches of Oz at the stunning, historical theatre Oct. 29-Nov. 9. Whether you’re a longtime Broadway fan or brand new to the magic of musical theatre, this is the event that will leave you spellbound.

It’s more than a musical. It’s a phenomenon. With a Tony Award-winning score, jaw-dropping costumes, and a story that flips the Land of Oz on its head, “Wicked” will make you laugh, cry, and rethink everything you thought you knew about good and evil.

Follow Elphaba, the misunderstood, smart, green-skinned girl with a fiery spirit, and Glinda, the popular, ambitious blonde who sparkles with charm as they form an unlikely friendship that changes their lives (and Oz) forever.

With a voice that can stop time and a presence as powerful as the emerald magic she commands, Jessie Davidson steps into the iconic role of Elphaba — and she does not disappoint. Known for her emotional depth and soaring vocals, Davidson brings raw vulnerability to the “Wicked Witch” we thought we knew, offering a deeply human portrayal of a young woman who dares to question the world around her.

As the glittering, effervescent Glinda, Zoe Jensen brings both comedic timing and surprising emotional depth to the role of Oz’s future “good witch.” With past credits that include “Hamilton” (as Eliza in the national tour) and “Dear Evan Hansen,” Jensen has earned a reputation for making classic roles feel brand new.

Her Glinda is more than bubbles and charm — she’s layered, ambitious, and deeply sincere. Jensen navigates the role’s demanding vocals with dazzling ease (just wait for “Popular”), while also grounding Glinda’s journey with empathy and intelligence.

For Jensen, this a dream role. “It’s kind of one of those thrilling moments where I’m getting to go live my dream,” she said.

“Getting to put on the iconic costumes — it’s really such a gift. It feels like such a full circle moment, and then actually getting to do the show has been amazing. It’s easily one of the hardest shows I’ve ever done based off stamina and what the role requires of where she goes emotionally. But as someone who saw the show at 11 years old and was impacted by it, I know the effects of “Wicked.” To get to experience that with other audience members and give them that experience is really, really quite an honor.”

Originally debuting on Broadway in 2003, “Wicked” has since become a global sensation. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (“Godspell,” “Pippin”) and a book by Winnie Holzman, the production offers a fresh perspective on L. Frank Baum’s classic “The Wizard of Oz.”

Critics have praised “Wicked” for its emotional depth, dazzling visuals, and powerhouse performances. The show features iconic numbers such as “Defying Gravity,” “Popular,” “For Good,” and “Thank Goodness,” and has received over 100 international awards, including three Tony Awards and a Grammy.

“I really love the song, ‘Thank Goodness,’” Jensen said. “I think that’s a beautiful, powerful moment of your dreams can come true, and life is never going to be the way that you expected it to be. People can take that in many different ways.”

The appearance of “Wicked” in Schenectady is also expected to provide a significant boost to local restaurants, hotels, and small businesses, with thousands of theatregoers expected to visit downtown during the show’s run.
