UPH Welcomes Grammy Winner Corinne Bailey Rae and Comedy Standout Tom Papa for Summer Performances
SARATOGA SPRINGS (April 9) — Corinne Bailey Rae and Tom Papa are set to kick off a dynamic summer lineup at Universal Preservation Hall, each headlining their own night of live entertainment. Bailey Rae will bring an evening of soulful, genre-defying music to the Great Hall 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, while Papa will deliver a night of sharp, relatable comedy 8 p.m. Friday, July 17. Both performances will offer exclusive VIP experiences for fans.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of “Corinne Bailey Rae,” the Grammy Award-winning singer’s debut album that introduced the world to Bailey Rae’s soulful, sun-soaked sound. Originally released in February 2006, the record produced timeless hits like “Put Your Records On” and “Like a Star,” earning critical praise, multi-platinum sales, and Grammy nominations. Two decades on, the album’s warm blend of soul, pop, and jazz remains a touchstone for listeners and a defining moment in mid-2000s music. In celebration of this milestone, Corinne Bailey Rae is releasing the children’s book “Put Your Records On,” published with Rocky Pond Books, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers. Bailey Rae has collaborated with a wide range of artists including Mary J. Blige, Al Green, Herbie Hancock, KING, Paul McCartney, Kele Okereke, Eric Benet, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Questlove, Salaam Rami, RZA, Tyler, The Creator, and many more.
With more than 30 years as a stand-up comedian, Tom Papa is one of the top comedic voices in the country, finding success as an actor, host, and author, in film, TV, radio, and podcasts as well as on the live stage. Papa’s “The Grateful Bread Tour” plays off the title of his weekly podcast “Breaking Bread with Tom Papa” which features Tom and his guest eating, drinking, and celebrating the true meaning of breaking bread with insightful, revealing, and always funny conversations. He has released six acclaimed stand-up specials, including his latest Netflix hit, “Home Free” (2024), in which he reflects on life after the kids leave home and the absurdities of everyday living. In addition to his stand-up, Papa has appeared in films alongside Matt Damon and Robert De Niro, starred in HBO’s Emmy-winning “Behind the Candelabra,” and hosted NBC’s “The Marriage Ref.” He has also partnered with Nambé on a bread-making collection inspired by his love of baking.
