Schenectady-Saratoga Symphony Orchestra Announces 2026-27 Season
SCHENECTADY (April 19) — After the final concert of the 2025-26 season this weekend, the Schenectady-Saratoga Symphony Orchestra announced the shows coming to Schenectady and Saratoga Springs during the 2026-27 season, “Repertoire and Orchestration,” to celebrate Proctors 100th birthday.
Kicking off the season at Proctors, their first concert “Across the Channel, Across the Pond” will be on the MainStage Sunday, Oct. 25. The SSSO will take patrons on a journey through Spain and the New World to the grandeur of France in a sweeping program that celebrates music without borders. Marc Migó’s “Carnival de las Indias” bursts to life with rhythmic vitality and kaleidoscopic orchestration — brought vividly to the stage with narration by Annie Dutoit. Then, with the thunderous brilliance of the organ and the full force of the orchestra, Saint-Saëns’ majestic “Organ Symphony” builds from hushed mystery to one of the most electrifying finales in symphonic literature. A spectacular, organ-powered season opener.
Separate from the official season, the SSSO will be back with their annual favorite, “Poinsettia Pops,” for two performances at Universal Preservation Hall, Dec. 5 and 6. From beloved Christmas classics to symphonic showstoppers, this concert wraps the magic of the holidays into one unforgettable weekend with special guest artists, heartwarming melodies, and even a few musical surprises.
Concert two of the upcoming season brings Hollywood to life with “A Night at the Movies” on the MainStage at Proctors Sunday, Jan. 23. From sweeping love themes to pulse-pounding adventure scores, this cinematic celebration showcases the unforgettable music that defines Hollywood favorites. With narration guiding the journey, “A Night at the Movies” offers behind-the-scenes stories and the larger-than-life soundtracks that make movie moments soar.
A beautiful pairing of Opera Saratoga and the SSSO brings concert three “A Night at the Opera” to UPH Saturday, March 27. “A Night at the Opera” brings the grandeur of the opera house into the intimate setting of the Great Hall with an evening of soaring arias, powerful choruses, and unforgettable theatrical moments. Whether a lifelong opera lover or discovering it for the first time, this program is packed with familiar melodies and unforgettable emotional fireworks.
The season culminates in one of the most profound and transcendent works ever written with concert four, “Resurrection” on the MainStage at Proctors Sunday, April 18. Mahler’s “Symphony No. 2,” the monumental “Resurrection,” is a journey from darkness to radiant hope. Featuring soprano and mezzo-soprano soloists and the powerful Octavo Singers, this epic masterpiece calls for massive orchestral forces and delivers overwhelming emotional impact. From its haunting opening to the breathtaking choral finale, Mahler’s vision of renewal and redemption will leave you moved, uplifted, and transformed. A season-ending event of extraordinary scale and spirit — not just a concert, but an experience.
