Universal Preservation Hall Announces Evenings with Acclaimed Authors Colson Whitehead and Richard Russo
SARATOGA SPRINGS (May 22) — Northshire Bookstore and Universal Preservation Hall welcome two celebrated literary voices to the Great Hall with special events featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning authors Colson Whitehead and Richard Russo. Known for crafting powerful stories that explore history, identity, humanity, and the complexities of American life, both authors have become defining voices in contemporary literature, earning critical acclaim, bestselling works, and devoted readerships around the world.
Colson Whitehead, the acclaimed author of novels including “The Underground Railroad,” “The Nickel Boys,” and the “Harlem Shuffle” series, has received numerous literary honors, including two Pulitzer Prizes for fiction. Whitehead will discuss “Cool Machine,” the electrifying final installment of his “Harlem Trilogy” 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23.
Richard Russo, beloved for novels such as “Empire Falls,” “Nobody’s Fool,” and “Straight Man,” is widely recognized for his deeply human characters, wit, and richly observed portrayals of small-town life. Russo will talk to WAMC/Northeast Public Radio’s Joe Donahue about his new novel “Under the Falls,” a spellbinding page-turner about a crime in a small town that exposes long-held secrets and betrayals amount a group of lifelong friends 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16.
