Get to know: Laura Brignull, Scenic Artist

Laura Brignull has been a treasured member of Proctors for 13 years. Working in the Collaborative Scene Shop, she is responsible for making sure all scenery created matches its design.

Originally from Columbia County, NY, she enjoys the process of making art for the community, along with the variation that comes with working on new shows. She believes that the arts are important for education and culture.  

1. Do you remember the first moment you realized you wanted to be involved in the arts? 
   • I had always been artsy as a kid and then I volunteered at a local theatre and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the “magic” happen behind the scenes. I wanted to be a part of that. 
2. What’s your favorite thing about working for the Collaborative? 
   • Every show is different. 
3. What musical/play impacted you the most? How? 
   • “The Secret Garden” — it was the first show I saw on Broadway and I was amazed. 
4. What, or who, is your dream performance to see at one of our venues? 
   • I got to see “Hamilton” at Proctors. 
5. How would you describe the Collaborative in one word? 
   • Community.  
6. In your opinion, why are the arts so important to our culture?   
   • The arts are important for experiencing culture and as an education method.
7. What is one thing you want the Capital Region to know about Proctors Collaborative?  
   • There is always so much happening!
8. What do you see for Proctors in the next 100 years? 
   • Making art for the community.
