Over the Edge rappelling event raises funds for School of the Performing Arts at Proctors

Toss the Boss at The Landing Hotel at Rivers Casino & Resort, Saturday, Sept. 1

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—JULY 2, 2018—“Take a flying leap!” “Go jump off a cliff!” “If I told you to jump off a bridge, would you!?”

It’s time to finally take up friends, siblings and parents on those blustery challenges they’ve been throwing down years.

Do it, with Over the Edge.

OK, OK, so you won’t actually be jumping off a cliff, but it’s about as close you can get and still live to tell the tale.

Over the Edge offers all comers the opportunity to rappel down the side of The Landing Hotel at Rivers Casino & Resort (21 Rush Street, Schenectady).

Rappel, you ask? Yes, rappel, or, as Webster’s would have it, “to descend (as from a cliff) by sliding down a rope passed under one thigh, across the body, and over the opposite shoulder, or through a special friction device.”

Proctors has teamed with The Landing and adventure experience company Over the Edge to present its own rappelling event, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, rain or shine. All proceeds support the educational efforts of the School of the Performing Arts at Proctors.

The experience is both thrilling and safe, representing a once in a lifetime chance for a unique urban mountaineering feat—you’ll be bragging to friends for years.

Individuals can go Over the Edge by raising a minimum of $1,000. Three or more employees from a business or organization can rappel down The Landing when each raises $1,000 or more—all company teams will receive event day recognition.

Best of all, companies can also Toss the Boss! Willing employers can be sent Over the Edge by raising a minimum of $1,500. Rally co-workers for a company-wide fundraising effort to see the head honcho take that big step over the side of The Landing Hotel! Companies participating in Toss the Boss will also receive event day recognition.

As noted, all proceeds benefit the School of the Performing Arts at Proctors, which recently sent two area students to New York for the national Jimmy Awards; teched a new show bound for off-Broadway; and will present Broadway Camp: AIDA in August.

Over the Edge, founded in 2004 by Canadian lifestyle consultant Paul Griffith, has been presenting rappelling events around the United States for over a decade. Safety is its number one commitment.
