Capital Repertory Theatre is the place for community and experience
For subscribers, theREP season guarantees time away from the day-to-day
ALBANY— Theatres offer community, camaraderie and escape. And for subscribers, Capital Repertory Theatre is that place. A season at theREP guarantees a year worth of laughs, memories and introspection.
Whether you’re looking for a date night, time out with friends, or even if you want to adventure solo, subscribers get six nights a year to do something different from their daily routines and experience one-of-a-kind art.
Wendy Hord and Deb Dennis have been subscribers at theREP for roughly 20 years – stacking up a lot of fun date nights and meaningful friendships along the way.
Neither from the Capital Region, they found theREP while trying to grow closer with the community they lived in.
“I wanted to get involved in the theatre and be able to see plays and make that part of my life,” Hord said.
After buying multiple tickets throughout the season, they realized the benefit (and savings) of diving in and purchasing a full subscription.
Subscriptions offer patrons the best prices and best seats before tickets go on sale to the general public. Being a subscriber is a great way to support local theatres.
“The city of Albany is important to me. I live [here] and have live entertainment—theatre—to look forward to on a yearly basis, several times a year,” Dennis said. “[The artistic team] does such a great job picking quality work.”
A subscription at theREP consists of five shows on the MainStage. The 2024-25 season includes “Seared,” “A Sherlock Carol,” “The Lehman Trilogy,” “Rosie Is Red And Everybody is Blue” and the summer musical “Once.”
“I think [theREP] is a nice atmosphere. I would definitely bring somebody here and have them experience it. And hopefully from that, they would have incentive to subscribe,” Dennis added.
Subscribers can choose one show from the Proctors Key Bank Broadway Series with the Crossvenue Pass.
Hord said, “I think just having a night out, getting a chance to dress up a little and relax, and knowing that you’ll have that every season, is great.”
Located in downtown Albany, in a renovated commercial bakery, theREP provides audiences with state-of-the-art lighting and sound, and a great view from every seat in the house. Subscribers pick the seat they want for the season, and upon renewal can keep their seat or try out a new vantage point!
The upcoming season, sponsored by Overit, is on-sale now. To become a subscriber, visit the Box Office at Proctors in-person or via phone at (518) 346-6204 Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. or by visiting attherep.org.
“I would highly encourage someone to try and come to one of the performances,” Dennis said.
They added that if you want a buddy, she and Hord would be more than happy to show you the ropes and share their love for the venue anytime.
