Collaborative School of the Arts Launches Robust Fall Programming, Bringing Live Theatre to Thousands of Students Across the Capital Region

SCHENECTADY (Sept. 9) — This fall, the Collaborative School of the Arts is once again opening the curtain for students across the Capital Region, offering opportunities to experience professional theatre in ways that are engaging, affordable, and deeply connected to classroom learning. Through student matinees at Proctors in Schenectady, Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany, and Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs, as well as the On-the-Go Touring Productions that bring live productions directly into schools, the Collaborative School of the Arts continues to serve as one of the Capital Region’s most impactful arts education providers.

At Proctors, students can experience the excitement of productions performed on the same stage as national Broadway tours. Each show is accompanied by study guides and resources for teachers, ensuring the excitement of the performance carries back into the classroom. This season, Proctors offers “SUGAR SKULL! – A Día de Muertos Musical Adventure,” Northeast Ballet’s annual “The Nutcracker,” “Pete the Cat,” “BUGS,” and “The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System.”

At theREP, matinees bring literature and contemporary issues to life in a professional setting. Known for its intimate productions and commitment to relevant, socially conscious theatre, theREP offers students a unique chance to see themselves and the world around them represented on stage. This season, theREP will have student matinees for season productions “Murder for Two: Holiday Edition” and “Archduke.”

At UPH, students have the opportunity to step inside one of Saratoga Springs’ newest, most historic, and beautifully restored performance spaces. A student matinee in the Great Hall allows students to see the magic of live performance in a venue unlike any other in the Capital Region. UPH is offering “Literature to Life Stage Presentation: I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter” and “Doktor Kaboom: Look Out! Science is Coming!” this season.

For educators seeking flexibility, the On-The-Go Touring Productions program brings live theatre directly to schools. The mobile productions offer professional performances paired with post-show discussions. This season, the Collaborative School of the Arts is excited for the return of the incredibly popular “Pure Poe: Three Tales of the Macabre” and “They Built America: Workers of the Erie Canal.” Each of these titles is also offering student matinees in addition to weekend public performances.

Schedules, recommended grade levels, and booking information for all fall programs are available on the Collaborative School of the Arts website and in the classroom brochure. Teachers are encouraged to book early, as matinees and On-the-Go performances frequently sell out. Visit collaborativeschoolofthearts.org for more details.
