Universal Preservation Hall Announces Two Imaginative Family Performances for Audiences of All Ages
SARATOGA SPRINGS (June 16) — Universal Preservation Hall invites families, students, educators, and theatre lovers to experience two exciting productions that bring beloved stories to life: “Treasure Island Reimagined: Jane Hawkins and the Pirate’s Gold” and “Cat Kid Comic Club — The Musical.”
From acclaimed creator Jason Neulander, the visionary behind the internationally celebrated “The Intergalactic Nemesis,” comes an exhilarating new theatrical experience, “Treasure Island Reimagined: Jane Hawkins and the Pirate’s Gold” 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14. Inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale, this innovative production transforms the traditional stage play into a live-action graphic novel. Three performers create every character voice and sound effect live before the audience while more than 1,200 hand-drawn comic book panels explode onto a giant screen, creating a cinematic adventure unlike anything else on stage. Filled with mystery, danger, treasure hunts, and unforgettable characters, Jane Hawkins and the Pirate’s Gold offers edge-of-your-seat excitement for audiences young and old.
Based on Dav Pilkey’s bestselling and beloved book series, “Cat Kid Comic Club — The Musical” delivers a hilarious and heartwarming celebration of creativity, friendship, and self-expression 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10. Cat Kid and Molly Pollywog have started a comic club to teach 21 energetic baby frogs how to create their own comics. While their father, Flippy, is thrilled to see the young frogs exploring their imaginations, the club quickly descends into chaos as endless squabbles and wildly inventive stories send their projects hilariously off the rails. Packed with catchy songs, colorful characters, and laugh-out-loud moments, the musical explores the power of creativity, collaboration, and embracing individuality. As the frogs learn to work together, audiences will discover that imagination can solve even the biggest challenges.
Together, these productions offer two unique theatrical experiences that inspire imagination while entertaining audiences of all ages. Whether embarking on a swashbuckling treasure hunt or joining a comic club filled with creative chaos, families will find unforgettable adventures waiting at UPH.
