“Some Like it Hot” kicks off 24/25 Broadway series at Proctors
Sensational hit comes to Schenectady to start season in sizzling fashion
SCHENECTADY—Kicking off the 2024-2025 Proctors KeyBank Broadway Series is the sizzling musical “Some Like It Hot.” The first show of the season is always special— and what a patron of Proctors might not know, is the real reason why! Not only is Proctors kicking off an exciting season, but Proctors theatregoers are seeing the first version of “Some Like it Hot” on its national tour.
The production team and crew arrived in Schenectady Aug. 28 to build the show from the stage up. Setting up the lights, building the set, preparing the costumes and perfecting scene transitions. In the industry, this is referred to as “teching” a show. And the impact on the city that a show techs in, is profound.
Proctors CEO Philip Morris said, “To be the first city to share this show with our audiences as it launches to tour North America is a thrill. We get to see the production first, and we get to share our region with the finest performers, designers, musicians and production folk in the country. What could be better!?”
The four-time Tony Award-winning “Some Like It Hot” opens Tuesday, Sept. 17 and runs until Sept. 22.
Based on the movie of the same title, “Some Like It Hot” is set in Chicago during Prohibition. The story follows two musicians forced to flee the Windy City after witnessing a mob hit. With gangsters hot on their heels, disguising themselves as women, they join an all-female jazz band and hop a train bound for a life-chasing, life-changing trip of a lifetime.
Morris added, “It was no wonder to me that ‘Some Like It Hot’ was nominated for 13 Tony Awards. It was dazzling and easily earned Best Choreography among others.”
