The Alt expands with Alt Access, The Daily Primer and The AltCast

SCHENECTADY—As part of a multimedia expansion, The Alt has added a bi-weekly online flipbook edition, Alt Access; an email alert, The Daily Primer; and a weekly television show, The AltCast, to its portfolio.

Beginning today, The Alt print edition will publish bi-weekly, with an online calendar updated daily for comprehensive entertainment coverage.

Publisher Tracy Strann says, “News delivery is constantly changing in today’s world, and The Alt is responding by reaching out directly to readers. The print edition will serve as an anchor for these new projects, with The Alt becoming a virtual real-time conversation about politics, art and society. Readers can participate in any number of ways now, staying on top of every trend and topic in the region.”

Free subscriptions to Alt Access, available at www.thealt.com, include The Daily Primer, which provides news, reviews, profiles and opinions, as well as the bi-weekly flipbook edition.

In print, The Alt is expanding deeper into Saratoga County and will launch a series of region-specific issues highlighting key players, artists, politicians and socially aware businesses throughout the area. The April 4 issue focuses on Schenectady County, with a look at the work of Discover Schenectady, in particular.

Monthly regional issues will also be inserted into The Daily Gazette.

In partnership with Open Stage Media, episodes of The AltCast News air 9 a.m. Monday–Thursday on 1301 Spectrum and 36 Verizon Fios; episodes of The AltCast Arts air 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday–Friday on 1302 Spectrum and 37 Verizon Fios. All are available on demand at www.thealt.com.

Hosted by The Alt’s Editor/Associate Publisher David King, News Editor Luke Stoddard Nathan and Music Editor Katie Cusack, The AltCast has already featured in-depth talks with Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Albany Common Council President Corey Ellis, State Senator Gustavo Rivera, former Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Judith Enck, Basilica Hudson Co-founder and Director Melissa Auf der Maur, musician/activist Taina Asili and iconoclastic director of the Albany Public Library, Scott Jarzombeck, among others.

“Editorially, investing in these other platforms allows us to be in step with the times,” says King. “We will provoke, inform and inspire in different modes, to meet the demand of individual ways of engaging.”

The Alt, with offices in Schenectady at State Street’s Urban Co-Works, is a joint project of Overit, Proctors and The Daily Gazette.
