Mrs. Krishnan’s Party at GE Theatre at Proctors!

A theatre show and party all in one

7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8–9

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—FEB. 1, 2019—Indians throw crazy parties.

Heard of Diwali? A million lamps floating on a river and fireworks to wake the dead. Heard of Holi? An explosion of color and joy and massive dry cleaning bill?

Heard about Onam?  It could be the craziest of them all.

Indian Ink Theatre Company bridges cultures and expands boundaries with this utterly disarming comedy that seats the audience around the dining table and at the kitchen bench in the back room of an Indian run convenience store.

Now that her son is grown up Mrs. Krishnan is thinking of selling the shop. It’s Onam, a time to celebrate life, death, and rebirth and Mrs. Krishnan has to throw the party of her life.

Over one joyous evening, Mrs. Krishnan’s Party magically transforms strangers into friends through laughter, tears, good music and great food.

The extraordinary artistic partnership of Jacob Rajan and Justin Lewis— Indian Ink Theatre Company—is now comfortably in its second decade. Together, they have created a series of remarkable theatre productions of intimate scale, each one reminding us of the simple truths of life.

Indian Ink blends western theatrical traditions with eastern flavors in pursuit of ‘serious laughter.’ Live music, heightened theatricality, humor, pathos and great storytelling are hallmarks of their work.

Indian Ink has won multiple awards in New Zealand and two Fringe First Awards at Edinburgh. The company’s international successes include tours throughout Australia and the USA, as well as sell-out seasons in Singapore, Germany, India and the UK.

“We aim to make theatre that is beautiful, funny, sad and true. We go to the theatre to be transported by a great story and to enjoy characters that live large in our imaginations. We want the experience to leave an indelible imprint on your hearts. That’s why we’re called Indian Ink!”

Tickets for Mrs. Krishnan’s Party, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8–9, $40-$60, are available at the Box Office at Proctors, 432 State Street, Schenectady; by phone at 518.346.6204; and online at proctors.org.
